#AugustComplexFireNorth With the winds from the southwest clearing out the skies in the Ruth, Hettehshaw and Forest Glen areas, the full capactity of the helicopters and super scoopers were used yesterday to moderate the backing fire above Ruth as fire crews work to bring containment and protection to the community. The helicopters and scoopers work in a coordinated fashion and are managed by a fixed wing airplane and operator who we call Air Attack. Radio communications between all assets are constant, with helicopters and scoopers also talking with fire crews on the ground to ensure that each drop of water is placed in the most effective and strategic location. Dropping water without fire crews to follow it up with mixing and mopping is only so effective. Putting out fires requires “boots on the ground”. The helicopters are able to moderate fire intensity and slow it’s movement which is one of the keys to bringing fire to containment lines.
